Types of Amputation Injuries
|
There are many different types of amputations. Looking at just the lower extremity, there are foot amputations that involve one or more toes or possibly the entire foot. Another form of amputation is an ankle disarticulation, which is removal of the entire ankle. Further amputations may have to be done below the knee, at the knee, or above the knee. In the worst cases, a doctor may have to remove the entire leg bone, in an operation called a hip disarticulation. Similar classifications apply to upper extremity amputations.
