Types of Amputation Injuries

There are many different types of amputations.  Looking at just the lower extremity, there are foot amputations that involve one or more toes or possibly the entire foot.  Another form of amputation is an ankle disarticulation, which is removal of the entire ankle.  Further amputations may have to be done below the knee, at the knee, or above the knee.  In the worst cases, a doctor may have to remove the entire leg bone, in an operation called a hip disarticulation.  Similar classifications apply to upper extremity amputations.

A physician must determine the type of amputation, based on the nature and extent of your injury and your overall medical condition.  If possible, it is always wise to seek alternate medical opinions about your treatment options and the procedure that may be best for you.

If you or a loved one has experienced an amputation injury caused by another person, company, hospital, doctor or nursing home, talk with an experienced Michigan personal injury lawyer today.  Please submit a simple, free and confidential legal consultation form now.
