Chuck Gaidica:
Richard Bernstein is out here, from The Sam Bernstein Law Firm, joining me today to help really energize these kids, it’s great to see you.
Richard Bernstein:
Oh Chuck, thank you so much for doing this. This is so incredibly exciting. I just want to tell the viewers, this is such a wonderful cause, giving children the chance to read, it really gives them the chance to be hopeful, to have spirit, to have energy to have excitement. It really lets blind children discover their world in a wonderful way, and thank you for bringing attention to this.
Chuck Gaidica:
Well, thank you for being here and I want to spend more time talking to you a little about your story, but real quick, you’re just back from the New York Marathon, right?
Richard Bernstein:
Yes, Chuck it was my 7th New York Marathon, but my 15th total. But I got to tell you, it’s books like this and programs like this that give you that inspiration, that give you that excitement to go out and challenge and enjoy the world.
Chuck Gaidica:
Now when you have an organization like Seedlings, you know they’re based in Livonia, but they do this for blind children all over the world. How critically important is it to not only put brail in a book, because to someone like me with sight; I’m thinking, well that’s just a way to read; to you, you have a different perspective, this opens up a whole new world for you doesn’t it?
Richard Bernstein:
Absolutely, because ultimately when you are blind, this is how you uncover the world. This is how you learn about yourself. This is how you learn about who you are. This is where you learn about what you can do and what the world is going to be like. It is critical to start at a very early age, to allow for blind children to really have that sense of self confidence and sense of belonging, but really it’s critical for them to imagine, to believe, but most importantly to be excited about life, and this organization, this program provides that opportunity to do just that.
Chuck Gaidica:
Well, you can’t be excited about life without standing next to Richard Bernstein, when you get that excitement.
Richard Bernstein:
Thank you Chuck, thank you so much.
Chuck Gaidica:
Thanks, we’ll talk some more in a little while, and you can come out and visit us at Laurel Park Place Mall, right next to Santa in the food court. 100% of all the proceeds from what we sell benefits Seedlings Braille Books for Children. We’ll be back in a little bit, Santa’s not far, oh he’s walking toward me, I hope I’ve been good. Karen I’d better give it back to you.
Karen Drew:
Alright, he truly is an inspiration. Thanks so much Chuck, we appreciate it.
